Softball Australia has just launched the Home Run Heroes Sidekicks Handbook!
The Sidekicks Handbook and Lesson Plans, aimed at 4-7year olds, make it super easy for coaches and volunteers to deliver awesome softball experiences for children.
The HRH Sidekicks Handbook and Lesson Plans step coaches and volunteers through everything they’ll ever need to know when getting new Home Run Heroes into the sport, and are super accessible with easy-to-follow instructions and language.
The Handbook contains background information about the sport and the Home Run Heroes program, and it includes a “How-To” guide for coaches with tips on delivering fun Sidekicks sessions.
The Lesson Plans take coaches and volunteers through every step of each activity in any session, with a different Lesson Plan for each week of Sidekicks Program.
The resources also incorporate best-practice learning methods, such as the Change It and Game Sense approaches to participation programs - including simple modifications to activities, such as changing the rules, playing area, or the equipment to suit the maturity and skill level of participants. Put simply, it is a guide to putting more smiles on faces more often.
Game Sense is a tried and tested philosophy of prioritising fun and involvement above winning and focused skill development, which provides the best possible environment for a child to learn new skills.
We’ve done all the preparation work so coaches and volunteers can focus on what they do best – delivering fun softball experiences in a safe, inclusive, and rewarding environment.

WELCOME TO A WORLD FIRST.
On Sunday 16th October 2022, a synchronised race event will take place across 22 cities in Australia & New Zealand.
Over 100,000 participants will run for a cause, running for our very own wonder of the world – the Great Barrier Reef.
Races will start simultaneously with a global leaderboard where you will not only compete against your local runners, but runners from across the continent. Register for your preferred distance with races at 1km, 5km, 10km, or the race2zero 10km designed for elite runners.
Locations
With the support of 21 host cities, runners will have the opportunity to compete against participants right across Australia and New Zealand without leaving home.
In each of the 1km (6-14yo), 5km, 10km and 10km race2zero for elite runners, all participant times will be aggregated in real time to create the world’s first simultaneous running event across 2 countries and 21 cities – – with all runners competing over exactly the same distances and being able to measure their times with and against all participants.
Join the cause wherever you are. Tasmania's host cities are Hobart and Launceston. See below for links to city-specific information and entry details.
