The Southern High Schools Sports Association (SHSSA) is working with a number of state sporting organisations to give students an opportunity to become upskilled to better support refereeing and umpiring duties during the various annual school championship opportunities offered.
Targetted at Year 9's and older, the aim is for students to come away with a formal qualification (if possible) that they can build on in the future to continue to support school and community club sport.
Finer details are still being confirmed, but information to date as follows:
- Thursday 29 June
- STNA, Creek Rd and adjacent New Town Oval
- 10am-1pm (approx)
- Sports (students to choose just one):

- Netball
- Touch Football
Students will be required to complete some prior online learning.
Activities on the day will involve both theory and practical learning.
Cost: TBC - Still being negotaited for formal qualications (it will be kept to a minimum). Students are welcome to participate for free regardless (but this may mean a formal qualification is not recieved).
Please register your interest and intent to participate (with sport/s of choice and estimated student numbers) with, and direct any queries to regional.sport.coordinator@decyp.tas.gov.au by Friday 31-March.

This year the STBA is offering schools year round booking opportunities for court hire and coaching, please see the attached 2023 Badminton Schools Flyer which include all details relevant to bookings courts at the STBA.
The Southern High Schools Badminton Roster will be held in Term 2 on Friday afternoons.
Registrations are now open and will close on the 24-March.
The Southern College Badminton Roster will be run in Term 3, details will be released in the coming months.

ALL BOOKED OUT for 2023!
North West Thunder Basketball is excited to visit your school as the 2023 NBL1 season is about to start!
Following an overwhelming response in 2022 we would like to invite the region’s primary schools to book free clinics for their school during Term 1 and 2.
Our clinics offer junior basketballers the opportunity to develop their skills while having fun with our Thunder players.
A clinic runs for 45 minutes and multiple clinics can be scheduled for the same day to engage more students and potentially all classes. Clinics will focus on basketball skills and the learners will have the opportunity to meet the current Thunder players, allowing time for Q & A as well.
A limited number of clinics are available and spots will fill up fast, so get in quick and do not miss out on this fantastic opportunity.

FREE - St John Ambulance First Aid in Schools Program

Welcome to 2023 and another exciting year of school water polo ahead!
The 2023 School and College Competition will run during Term 2 on Friday nights at DKHAC starting on Friday 5 May. There will be eight weeks of rostered games and two weeks of finals, with the grand final being played on 7 July. More details will be provided in the coming weeks regarding team fees and registration instructions.
Team divisions
- Grade 5/6 mixed (potential for two divisions depending on numeber of teams)
- Grade 7/8 boys and girls
- Grade 9/10 boys and girls
- College boys and girls
Team training
Teams wishing to train can attend the either DKHAC or Clarence Pool on the below days and times during the season. Pool hire is included in team fees.
- Tuesday 7.30-8.30pm for grades 5/6 and 7/8 at DKHAC for nominated schools starting 2 May.
- Tuesday 8.30-9.30 for grades 9/10 and colleges at DKHAC for nominated schools starting 2 May.
- Wednesday 7.30-8.30 for The Friends School and/or other schools who are notified starting 3 May.
WPTAS player skills clinic and coaching clinic
WPTAS will provide a player skills clinic and coaching clinic for all new and existing players and coaches at DKHAC on Friday 28 April from 6.30-7.30pm.

Ticket to Play provides two vouchers up to $100 each towards club membership/ registration for children aged 5-18yrs who are listed on a Services Australia Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card or who are in out of home care.
What can I use the vouchers for?
Vouchers can be used towards the cost of sporting club membership, as well as for Learn to Swim, Dance, Scouts, Guides and Cadets.
Vouchers can be used at two different activity providers or both can be used at the one activity provider.
Important Dates
Ticket to Play voucher applications are open until 31 May 2023. Vocuhers must be given to an approved activity provider by 7 June 2023.

All schools (both government and non-government) can apply online for grants of up to $25,000 via the Australian Governments Schools Upgade Fund Open Round.
An applicant can seek funding for multiple eligible projects if the total funding sought does not exceed $25,000. Where a school is composed of multiple campuses, the school may apply to deliver projects across multiple campuses, as long as the total funding sought does not exceed $25,000.
Applications are now open and close 11.59 pm AEDT on Friday 24 February 2023. Successful schools will be notified in May 2023, with funding to be provided in June 2023.
See the Schools Upgrade Fund Guidelines which provide more information on eligible projects and should be read carefully before completing and submitting an application for funding.
All applications for funding under the Open Round should be made via the online application form.

Since 2000, National Youth Week has provided a celebration of the efforts and contributions of young people aged 12–25 years in their communities. In 2018, a new chapter began with the first celebration of Youth Week Tasmania, funded entirely by the Tasmanian Government.
Youth Week Tasmania aims to be inclusive of young Tasmanians from all communities, and to be celebrated in all regions of Tasmania.
It will be held from Monday 1-May to Sunday 7-May 2023, with a theme of 'Acceptance' and slogan 'Be Bold. Be You.'
Through the Youth Week Grants the Tasmanian Government aims to:
- Showcase the talents and skills of young people
- Celebrate the contributions of young people in communities, in education and in the workforce
- Build the capacity of young people to engage with the broader community and develop practical skills through their involvement in planning and delivering Youth Week Tasmania events or activities
Funding available
- The Tasmanian Government has allocated $20 000 for the Youth Week Tasmania 2023 Grants Program.
- Grants of up to $2 000 are available to organisations to support Youth Week Tasmania 2023 events or activities, or projects.
- Organisations may submit more than one application but will need to rank submissions in order of priority.
Applicants should read and understand the program Guidelines prior to submitting an application.
All applicants funded under this Grants Program must comply with any COVID-19 requirements and restrictions for events in place at the time of their event, including the Tasmanian Government’s A Framework for COVID-19 Safe Events and Activities in Tasmania.
