This is an exciting time for basketball in Tasmania, with the JackJumpers performing strongly in the NBL, discussion around a WNBL team and both the the Hobart Chargers men’s and women's programs about to embark on season 2023 in the NBL1 South.
The Hobart Chargers are looking to partner with local schools to showcase a school band on game night. A pre-game showcase (3-4 songs) can add value to what is a family orientated night with a strong local base. Playing 10 home games back at our original home at the Hobart Netball and Sports Centre, Creek Road, the atmosphere on game night for fans is high energy and we expect large spectator crowds (betweeen 500-1000) cheering us on.
SCHOOL BAND OPPORTUNITY
- Does your school have a rock band or orchestra?
- Would your students benefit from a performance opportunity at grassroots basketball?
Our first home game is Friday April 21.
Reach out to our Partnerships Manager, Andrew Moore via the contact details below to have a chat and we can work with your school, staff and students to create an opportunity.

Variety’s Kids Sports Days are a free, fun and inclusive day of trying out different sports for kids who often miss out.
Aimed at kids aged 5-18, the sports days provide them with an opportunity to have a go in a fun and supportive environment with specialised coaches on hand.
Our goal is to increase awareness around the opportunities for people living with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities to access sport and active recreation. We also invite children of all abilities to participate, so a student's classmates are able to come along to support, encourage and join in the fun with their friend!
We aim to help support students to continue playing with their local club beyond the day itself. We’re excited to collaborate with local councils, schools, universities and sporting organisations and clubs to continue to bring this program to Tassie!
In 2023, Variety Kids Sports Days will be staged in the North, North West and South, with event information, registration links and flyers available below.

After 43 years and a five year hiatus due to COVID-19 and other complications we are hoping for a big turnout for the Primary Schools Dance Event in 2023.
We plan to survey schools to find the "best of the best" dance favourites and they will be presented at the teacher PL workshops and celebrated at the event in September.
This year we are encouraging new teachers to try dance for the first time.
In 2023 the Dance Resource Kit and teacher Professional Learning will address curriculum links and the F-6 curriculum achievement standards:
- HPE
- The Arts
- General Capabilities
- HAAS
- Languages
For those not familiar with the Dance Event, it is an opportunity for primary school students and teachers to learn a series of dances, to be performed at a mass participation event.
Teachers are provided with a Dance Resource Kit and an opportunity to participate in Professional Learning workshops. They include easy and harder versions of all dances with slowed down and normal speed versions, videos students can watch and learn the moves, and much more! Participants will walk through these key features at the PL workshops.
This year's Primary Schools Dance Event is planned for the week of September 18-22 (Week 10 of Term 3), with venues to be confirmed in the North West and South.
More information about the Dance Event is provided in the flyer below.
TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
The first step in preparing for this year's Dance Event is for teachers to enrol in the Professional Learning workshops, which will be conducted as follows:
- Grade 3-6 Dances: 9.15 am to 12.00 pm - Tuesday June 20 in the NW
- K-2 Dances: 1.15 pm to 3.00 pm - Wednesday June 21 in the South
Please complete the enrolment form ASAP by clicking on the relevant link below. This will ensure teachers are added to the event contact list and sent the "Dance Survey" early in Term 2.
