After 43 years and a five year hiatus due to COVID-19 and other complications we are hoping for a big turnout for the Primary Schools Dance Event in 2023.
We plan to survey schools to find the "best of the best" dance favourites and they will be presented at the teacher PL workshops and celebrated at the event in September.
This year we are encouraging new teachers to try dance for the first time.
In 2023 the Dance Resource Kit and teacher Professional Learning will address curriculum links and the F-6 curriculum achievement standards:
- HPE
- The Arts
- General Capabilities
- HAAS
- Languages
For those not familiar with the Dance Event, it is an opportunity for primary school students and teachers to learn a series of dances, to be performed at a mass participation event.
Teachers are provided with a Dance Resource Kit and an opportunity to participate in Professional Learning workshops. They include easy and harder versions of all dances with slowed down and normal speed versions, videos students can watch and learn the moves, and much more! Participants will walk through these key features at the PL workshops.
This year's Primary Schools Dance Event is planned for the week of September 18-22 (Week 10 of Term 3), with venues to be confirmed in the North West and South.
More information about the Dance Event is provided in the flyer below.
TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
The first step in preparing for this year's Dance Event is for teachers to enrol in the Professional Learning workshops, which will be conducted as follows:
- Grade 3-6 Dances: 9.15 am to 12.00 pm - Tuesday June 20 in the NW
- K-2 Dances: 1.15 pm to 3.00 pm - Wednesday June 21 in the South
Please complete the enrolment form ASAP by clicking on the relevant link below. This will ensure teachers are added to the event contact list and sent the "Dance Survey" early in Term 2.

Schools are encouraged to use the attached examples of physical activity videos to share with families through social media and online newsletters. The resources were designed to be shared over the April school holidays, but are also applicable over Term 2 to encourage continued physical activity throughout the winter months.
The series of physical activity videos provide families of young children with practical ideas on how to support their child’s physical development.
The websites and videos support the Gross Motor Marker group within the Kindergarten Development Check (KDC). They also recognise the role that physical skills and core strength play in the development of writing skills and literacy.
The attached document includes activity descriptions, videos and website links.

Does your school share your facilities with a community club or organisation? If yes, submit a joint application to participate in the Play For Purpose Sports & Charity Raffle.
Play For Purpose is an innovative fundraising solution, that rewards both organisations and supporters alike!
This world-first fundraising raffle is free for organisations to participate in, and gives them access to large prize pools and powerful e-commerce technology, with no financial risk.
How it Works:
- Play for Purpose is a not-for-profit online raffle. It is free for organisations to sign up!
- Once an organisation has signed up, they will be given their very own website to sell the raffle tickers and promote to their community and supporters.
- Supporters and community members can buy tickets for $10 each and a minimum of $5 from every ticket sold will support the organisation's charitable sporting projects.
- There are hundreds of prizes to be won - including a top prize of $250,000 in cashable gold bullion!
Funds raised through Play For Purpose must be used for charitable sporting projects.
The applicable project category for schools who share facilities with a community club or organisation is:

The Tasmanian Institute of Sport is proud to announce the launch of our Talent ID for 2032 program.
What are we doing? |
Talent ID for 2032 aims to find 12–22 year old Tasmanians with the potential, skills, attributes and aspirations to be the next Olympic and Paralympic champions from Tasmania, with a focus on the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
To achieve this, we are running talent identification testing sessions around the state that will assess potential athlete’s physical strengths and identify which sports they could be most suited to. We may even find some athletes who are suited to a sport they have never tried before!
Athletes who are successful will enter into the new TIS Talent Identification and Development program, where they will gain access to a range of training, sport science, sports camps, strength and conditioning, and sports medicine services.
